That is everything the maker says about itself on the pages we read. The home page gives no location, founding date, owner or about page, and the one About-style page we looked for returned nothing, so I have no company history to report and will not guess at one. If a brand's own site will not tell you who it is, the Amazon listing and the seller are the only identities you have, and I would read both before you buy.

• Bootfoot for hunting: a breathable pair with 1000 g insulated boots and a removable liner, and a 5 mm neoprene chest wader with 1000 g boots.
• Kids: a 4.5 mm neoprene chest wader with an attached boot.

Read the table with the marks in mind. Most 8 Fans rows are "listing", taken from the Amazon listing, because the maker's pages we read carry few specs. A few carry "maker" or "claimed": the waterproof and breathability ratings on the unisex chest wader, the sole material on the boots and the combo's rod action. The "—" cells are mostly warranty, fit and height details nobody has confirmed. No row has a confirmed warranty.

The waders

Breathable chest waders. The three stockingfoot chest waders are listed as 3-ply breathable with gravel guards, reinforced knees and sizes up to 3XL, suited to fishing and hunting. Our data records a 15,000 mm waterproof rating and a 3,000 g breathability rating for the unisex 3-layer pair, both marked as the manufacturer's claim. Waterproof ratings in millimeters measure how much water pressure a fabric resists, and breathability in grams measures how much vapor passes through. Without a named test the numbers are claims. One detail to check: the maker's page for the unisex chest wader has a title that mentions bootfoot and neoprene, while its heading says breathable 3 layers. Those cannot both be right. Our data follows the heading and the Amazon listing, which say stockingfoot and 3-ply. Confirm on the listing before you order.

Waist waders. A single pair, listed as 3-ply breathable stockingfoot with 5 mm neoprene booties and reinforced knees, for men. Waist waders are for shallow warm water, and I would not wade deeper than the waist in them. See waist waders.

Hunting waders. The breathable bootfoot pair lists 1000 g boots and a removable 140 g liner, which the maker says is 3M Thinsulate. The maker calls them 100 percent waterproof and sizes them US 7 to 14, and its page does not state the outer fabric or layers, though our data records three layers. Our listing data also mentions stout and regular sizing, which the maker's page does not. The neoprene pair lists 5 mm neoprene, a 1000 g boot and reinforced knees, in men's 7 to 14. Kids waders. One 4.5 mm neoprene bootfoot chest wader in sizes 2T through 14/15. Chest waders on a child near moving water are a safety question, not only a fit one. Boots, socks and the jacket

Wading boots. Four pairs: a felt-sole boot with laces in men's 9 to 14, a second felt-sole boot with speed laces, a rubber-sole boot with a rotating buckle, and a pre-studded rubber boot with a microfiber leather and 1000D Oxford upper in men's 8 to 12. Wading socks. A unisex neoprene sock, 3 mm, with a gravel guard, in S to XL for shoe sizes 7 to 14. See neoprene wading socks.

Wading jacket. A unisex jacket in sizes S to 3XL with neoprene cuffs and nine zippered pockets. The Amazon title says 3-layer while the maker page and the Amazon bullet say 2-layer, so I treat the layers as unconfirmed. See wading jackets.

Fly combos and line

Three 9-foot four-piece combos in 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. Per our data the listing and maker record a graphite rod with a cork handle, an aluminum reel seat with double lock rings, a CNC-machined aluminum reel with 2+1 ball bearings, a floating line, backing and a 3X leader, and the listing title calls the rod a slow action. The maker's page we read confirms the 9-foot length, four pieces, the machined aluminum reel and a "Complete Starter Package" and says nothing else, so treat the rest as listing data. Slow action is a label I rarely see on a fly rod; most makers say moderate or fast. A slower rod loads deeper and is forgiving at short range, and it is less happy in wind. There is also a fly line kit: a weight-forward floating line for line weights 3 to 8 with two welded loops, an 8-strand braided polyester backing and a nylon tapered leader.

What to check on any budget wader

A few checks apply to every 8 Fans wader and to most waders in this tier. Look at where the seams are taped, and read the listing for the number of layers; a "3-ply" or "3-layer" label is a construction claim, and I give it the same weight as any other manufacturer claim. Look for a gravel guard, which is the cuff that keeps pebbles out of a stockingfoot wader and which the listings mention for the chest waders. Check the knee reinforcement, since knees are where waders wear first. Check the feet: stockingfoot needs boots, bootfoot does not, and boot size on a bootfoot wader is fixed, so it has to fit the shoe size you actually wear with a thick sock.

Then decide how long you want the pair to last. We could not find 8 Fans warranty terms on any page we read. No product page states them, and the home page has no warranty page that we could see. I will not describe a policy that I have not read. First, pick the job: breathable fishing waders, insulated hunting waders, kids or boots. Second, treat the "listing" marks as what the seller says, and look hard at the "—" cells, since warranty is empty everywhere. Third, size from the chart on the listing, not from the dropdown, and measure yourself first. Fourth, buy a wading belt with any chest waders, and keep a small repair kit in the truck; a belt keeps water out of the legs if you fall, and a patch saves a day when a pinhole shows up. Fifth, if you are choosing between this brand and others at a similar tier, compare the warranty column first, because here it is empty.
