Lightweight Wading Boots

Lightweight wading boots are boots whose maker publishes a low weight, and the table above lists the ones we track on Amazon US from lightest to heaviest using only weights stated by the manufacturer. We skip Amazon shipping weights because they include the box, and we skip any boot with no published weight, so a listing that merely says "ultralight" does not make the cut. The sections below explain how to read those numbers, what a lighter boot gives up, and how to pick one.

What's in this tableWading boots with a weight published by their maker (Amazon shipping weights are not used), lightest first.

What the list is

The rule behind this page is plain. A boot appears here only if its maker publishes a weight in ounces, and the table sorts those weights from lowest to highest. At our last check (October 2026) 15 boots made the cut, from the lighter Korkers models to several Simms boots. Amazon shipping weights are not used, because they usually include packaging. A boot with no published weight does not appear, even if the listing is full of words like "lightweight" or "ultralight."

That makes the list narrower than a search for "ultralight wading boots" would suggest. It also makes it honest. A weight in ounces from the maker is a number you can compare. A phrase on a listing is not. The Marketing Copy likes the word "ultralight" because it needs no ounces. Ultralight compared with what, and measured how? A spec is an ounce figure with a basis, and anything else is mood lighting.

How to read the weight column

Weights in the table are published by the manufacturer and shown in ounces. Most are given per pair. One is given per boot, and that matters.

Under each model name, the "More specs" toggle shows the weight basis along with upper material, drainage and size range where we have them. Weights come from the maker's page, so they carry the maker mark. If a value shows a dash, we could not confirm it.

What weight actually changes

Weight shows up in three places.

  1. The walk in. If you hike a mile to the water, a few ounces per foot add up. Lighter boots are less tiring over distance, and anglers who cover a lot of bank are the people who ask for them.
  2. The pack. Boots are bulky. A lighter pair is easier to carry on a plane or in a trunk full of other gear.
  3. The drying. Less material usually means less water to carry out of the river. This is a tendency, not a measurement. We do not have drying times.

Weight does not change grip, warmth or how long the boot lasts. Those come from the sole, the upper and the build, and they are often the trade-off you pay for the savings.

What a lighter boot gives up

Less material means a boot that is usually softer, thinner and more flexible. That is a feature on a gravel bar and a drawback on loose rock. I'd weigh these before choosing lighter over sturdier.

The lightest boot is also the one that tells you about every rock on the way down a boulder-strewn bank. (Thick socks are a spec too, just not in the table.)

The brands in the list

The table is dominated by Korkers and Simms, with single entries from Bassdash and Foxelli. The Korkers boots in the list include the Stealth Sneaker, the Chrome Lite, the Bantam Lite and the Women's Bantam Lite, plus the Greenback, Darkhorse and River Ops lines. Several are sold with interchangeable soles, so you can swap the sole for the water you fish. The Simms boots here include the Tributary and Freestone lines in rubber and felt, which are among the heavier boots on the list but come with a lifetime guarantee.

A note on soles. Two Simms boots in the list have felt soles, and the interchangeable Korkers soles may include felt in some variants. Some places restrict felt, so check your state's fishing regulations before buying them. If you want to avoid the question, the rubber versions are the simpler choice. The felt sole wading boots page has more on that.

Fit, sizing and closure

Size ranges in the list run from about size 4 to size 16, depending on the model. The Korkers Bantam Lite goes from size 5 to 15, and the Simms Freestone men's boots go from 5 to 16. A few entries list only the upper end of the range. We do not copy size charts, but where a maker publishes one it is linked from the model in the table.

Remember that a wading boot goes over a neoprene wader foot, which adds bulk. The size that matches your street shoe may feel tight, so check the maker's chart for the exact model and try the boots with the waders and socks you will actually wear. Buyer feedback on fit varies by model, and we do not have enough consistent data to generalise. For the waders side, see the wader size chart guide.

For closure, the list includes plain laces, speed laces and BOA dials. A BOA dial is quick with cold hands, but if it breaks you need the maker's replacement. Plain laces are easy to fix in the field.

Choosing one

Start with how you fish. If you walk a lot and wade gravel, a lighter boot is reasonable, and rubber soles are the easy option. If you wade rough or heavy water, give weight a lower rank than support. If you travel, light weight and small bulk both help.

Then check:

  1. The weight basis, per pair or per boot.
  2. The sole, and whether it is allowed where you fish.
  3. The closure you will tolerate with cold fingers.
  4. The size range and the maker's chart.
  5. The warranty wording.

If you are choosing between a few, our best wading boots list uses one rule about published sole type, closure and warranty, which may help narrow things down. If you are new to the category, the main wading boots page covers the basics, and the stockingfoot waders page covers the waders that go inside them.

Packing and travel

If you fly with boots, weight is only half the story; bulk is the other half. A low boot with a soft upper packs flatter than a tall structured one, and a pair that comes apart (like the interchangeable-sole Korkers boots) means more small parts to keep track of. Put boots in a bag so grit and mud do not get on clothes, and rinse them before they go into a suitcase. If you are driving, none of this matters, and I'd pick on support and sole instead.

How much difference do ounces make?

It helps to put the numbers in proportion. The gap between the lightest and heaviest per-pair weights in the table is about 19 oz, roughly 1.2 lb across both feet. Over a long day that is noticeable, and across a short walk to a nearby pool it is not. A bigger effect comes from water. A boot that holds a lot of water gets heavier in the river, and a published dry weight does not capture that. Makers do not publish wet weights, so we cannot compare them.

For most anglers I'd rank the questions this way: does it fit, is the sole right for my water, does it support my ankle enough, and only then what does it weigh. A boot that is 3 oz lighter and half a size wrong is not a bargain.

The table is also a reminder that the lightest boots tend to be the ones with the least to say about themselves. Several cheaper boots are missing from this page simply because their makers do not publish a weight. That is not a verdict on them. If you like one of those, our main wading boots table shows the rest of what we know.

Care

Rinse your boots after use, scrub the soles, and let them dry fully. Lighter boots often dry sooner, but a damp boot in a closed bag still smells and wears out. Check laces and closures for wear before each trip, and replace studs or soles before they fail. Wear a wading belt with waders, use a wading staff in current, and take short steps. A lighter boot does not make a crossing safer.

Questions people ask

What are lightweight wading boots?

They are wading boots built to weigh less than a traditional lace-up boot, usually with a thinner upper, a lighter sole or a simpler construction. There is no standard that defines how light is light. On this page the rule is simple: the maker has to publish a weight, and the table sorts those weights from lowest to highest.

How much do wading boots weigh?

Among the boots in the table, makers publish weights that mostly fall between about 2.2 lb and about 3.4 lb per pair, which is 35 to 54 oz. Heavier, more structured boots exist outside this list, and one Simms guide boot in our wider data is published at about 78 oz per pair. Always check whether a weight is per pair or per boot.

Are lighter wading boots less supportive?

Often, though not always. Less material usually means a thinner midsole and a more flexible upper, which is nice on a long walk and less nice when you are rolling an ankle on loose cobble. Makers do not publish a support rating, so compare closure, upper material and style in the table, and decide how technical your wading gets.

Do lightweight wading boots dry faster?

Lighter boots usually hold less water, and many list drainage ports. We do not have measured drying times and makers do not publish them. As a rule of thumb, a boot with less padding and a mesh upper will dry sooner than a leather and foam one, but I'd still rinse and air dry it fully.

Why is one boot listed at 20.8 oz?

That Foxelli figure is the weight of a single boot, not a pair. Doubled, it comes to about 41.6 oz per pair, which puts it in the middle of the list rather than at the top. The table sorts by the raw number, so read the weight basis printed under the value before you compare.

Are lightweight boots good for travel?

They are easier to pack, and every ounce counts if you carry boots on a plane. Many anglers who travel also look at waders that pack small. Weight is one factor; sole type and local rules about felt soles matter too, so check your state's fishing regulations if a boot has a felt option.
