Which Echo model, if any
Who Echo is
Echo is the fly-fishing brand of Rajeff Sports, a small company based in Vancouver, Washington. Echo's about page calls Tim Rajeff "the founding father of Rajeff Sports" and lists Katherine Hart as a co-founder, with Jarrod Black and Jamie Hixson as co-owners. The page says the company sells its rods and reels exclusively through its dealer network and aims to "provide quality products and customer service to our fellow fly-fishers." It does not give a founding year, and I have not found a firsthand source for one, so I leave it out.
A 2011 blog post from a visit to the company quotes Rajeff on the idea behind the rods: "make an affordable first rod and a great back up." That is a design target and not a verdict, but it explains the lineup. Echo is built to be the sensible first rod, the second rod, or the spare in the truck. Where the rods are made is something I could not confirm. The about page does not say, and I will not fill the gap from rumor.
What Echo sells on Amazon US now
At our last check (October 2026) we track 57 Echo products: 30 fly rods, 12 reels, 11 combos and 4 fly lines. We matched almost every Echo model to a series page on Echo's own site, so many values carry the "maker" mark, though line weight, length and piece counts are often still marked "listing". A handful, the ION-XL rods for example, have no maker page in our data, so their values are "listing" only. The "—" marks sit mostly in the blank-material column, because Echo's pages often skip that detail.
The range splits into five groups that behave differently.
- Moderate and soft rods: Carbon XL, River Glass, Lift.
- Fast rods: Boost Fresh, Boost Blue, Shadow II (a euro nymph rod).
- Heavy and special-purpose rods: Streamer X, Indicator, Swing (a switch rod), ION-XL.
- Travel rods: Trip.
- Reels, kits and lines.
Read the table with those groups in mind. A 5-weight Carbon XL and a 5-weight Boost are not interchangeable, even though the number on the box matches.
The rod series, and who each suits
Carbon XL. Echo calls it a moderate-action rod with a light feel for "everything from dry fly fishing to nymphing and even light streamers," and says it fits the widest range of skill levels and casting styles. The page lists a 2-weight, a 3-weight at 7 feet 6 inches (2.8 ounces), 4-weights at 8 feet 4 inches and 9 feet, a 5-weight and a 6-weight at 9 feet (3.7 ounces), all in four pieces. The page names no blank material. A moderate rod bends deeper into the blank, which makes it forgiving for newer casters and good with light tippets, and it gets tired in a stiff wind. We also track two Carbon XL euro nymph rods, 10 feet in 3 and 4 weights, listed as euro nymph rods by the Amazon listing. See euro nymph rods for that style.
Lift. Echo says the Lift is derived from the Echo Base series, with updated actions suited to a wider range of casting styles, and calls it affordable value for beginners and experienced anglers. We track a 3-weight at 7 feet 6 inches, a 4-weight at 8 feet and a 5-weight at 9 feet, all four-piece. The page gives no action label and names no blank material. Treat the Lift as the entry-level rod of the lineup.
Boost Fresh and Boost Blue. Echo describes the Boost Fresh as fast action with "crisp" feel, softer tips and a stiffer feel overall, made from a blend of intermediate modulus graphite fibers to balance performance and a lower price. It is built on the original Boost with some weight shed. The 4-weight at 9 feet is listed at 2.8 ounces, and the maker suggests it for light nymphing, moderate dries and small streamers. The Boost Blue appears in our data as an 8-weight (4.2 ounces) and a 10-weight (5.3 ounces), both fast, both 9 feet. The page we read for the Boost Fresh does not discuss the Blue, so I will not tell you what the name means.
Streamer X, Indicator and Swing. Streamer X is a 9-foot rod in 6, 7 and 8 weights, at 4.1 to 4.5 ounces. The Indicator comes in a 9-foot 6-inch 6-weight and a 10-foot 7-weight. The Swing is an 11-foot 8-inch switch rod, listed as medium-fast, at 7.9 ounces. The maker's page names no action for Streamer X or Indicator in our data. These are heavier rods for bigger flies, and the ratings in the title tell you what they are meant for. Our fly rods page shows the wider market for each weight.
Trip. A travel rod in eight pieces, about 15 inches each, 9 feet long, in 5, 6 and 8 weights. Echo says it blends action and power for a wide range of situations and fits an 18-inch case; the 5-weight is listed at 3.2 ounces. (Eight pieces is a flat-pack wardrobe in rod form: easy to carry, and a test of patience at the water.) We track the 5-weight and 6-weight.
River Glass. Echo's pitch is the "fun and feel of fiberglass for the modern angler." The page lists a 6 foot 9 inch 2-weight and 3-weight in three pieces, a 7 foot 6 inch 4-weight and an 8-foot 4-weight in four pieces. We track the 3-weight, the 7 foot 6 inch 4-weight and the 8-foot 4-weight. The fiberglass blank is the Amazon listing's wording, and the page we read does not name the material. Read fiberglass fly rods to see why people choose them.
Bad Ass Glass Quickshot and Shadow II. A 4-piece 8-weight in fiberglass at 8 feet, and a fast 10-foot 3-weight euro nymph rod at 3.2 ounces. They are special tools. Buy them if you want to do that specific job.
The reels
Echo makes three reel families, and the maker's pages describe them well.
Ion. A hybrid machined and cast reel in alloy, with a maintenance-free disc drag, low start-up resistance, a large arbor and a click knob, aimed at freshwater and usable in saltwater with extra care. Our table lists sizes from 2/3 to 8/10, with weights from 4.8 ounces (2/3) to 8.3 ounces (8/10), and the maker states a 12-month limited warranty. A large arbor is a wide spool core: line comes off in looser coils and is retrieved faster per turn.
Bravo. A solid aluminum body, a large arbor, a "Pit Stop" drag with a maintenance-free carbon fiber disc and a roller clutch bearing, convertible between left and right retrieve, marketed as saltwater-safe. We track the 7/9 (8.5 ounces), 8/10 (8.8 ounces) and 10/12 (9.2 ounces), plus the Bravo LT 8/10 at 7.78 ounces, which our data shows with a sealed drag. Echo asks you to rinse the reel with warm fresh water after a day in salt, paying attention to the metal parts of the reel seat. See saltwater fly reels for comparison.
Base. A composite, impact-resistant resin frame reel with a disc drag, in 2/3, 4/5 and 6/8 sizes at 4.7, 5.1 and 6.0 ounces. It is the lightweight, low-cost reel in the outfits. Read parts of a fly reel if arbor and drag still feel like jargon.
Whatever you buy, check that the reel's line-weight range includes your rod's line weight, and that the spool holds the line plus backing. Our fly reel size guide explains the numbers.
Combos
Eleven combos turn up. The Traverse Kit (4, 5, 6 and 8 weights) is the most complete, with a 9-foot four-piece rod with a medium-fast action, an Ion reel with backing, a premium weight-forward floating line, a tapered leader and a carrying case, per Echo. The Lift Kit (4, 5, 6 and 8 weights) pairs a Lift rod with an Echo Base reel and a fabric rod and reel case; the maker's page does not list a line, so check the listing. The Gecko kits (a Gecko Kit, a Panfish Kit with a 7 foot 6 inch 4-weight and a Trout Kit with a 7 foot 9 inch 5-weight) include line, backing and a leader per our data. See fly rod combos for the category.
A complete outfit saves you from matching parts, and it hides the cost of a poor match. If you plan to upgrade the reel soon, the rod is the part to judge.
Fly lines
We track four Echo lines: three Boost lines in 5, 6 and 8 weights, listed as floating, and a Dry Fly Line WF6F, weight-forward and floating. That is all the data says. For how floating lines differ, see floating fly lines.
Warranty
Echo's warranty page says rods are covered against manufacturing defects for the life of the original owner, and that reels are covered for one year. Coverage is for the original owner, at Rajeff Sports' discretion. Claims on reels need a photo and proof of purchase from an Echo dealer within the previous calendar year. Normal fishing breakage is repairable for a service fee that varies by model, and discontinued or unrepairable rods may be offered a current model at a discount. Most current models have replacement tips you can buy from Echo without a claim.
Exclusions are broad: abuse, neglect, excessive wear, saltwater corrosion, mold, sun exposure, vehicle accidents (including rods broken in doors), lost or missing sections, and use in outfitter, rental or lodge fleets. Echo also says coverage is not indefinite, so failures from years of wear may not qualify. Every service carries a processing fee that is waived if the failure is a defect. The warranty page does not address fly lines. For the longer walk-through, our Echo warranty guide covers it, and I would keep the receipt, and the dealer name, where you can find them.
Echo sells through dealers, so an Amazon seller's status matters. A claim on a reel asks for proof of purchase from an Echo dealer, and a third-party marketplace seller may or may not qualify. Ask before you order.
How I would shop Echo
First, decide on action. Moderate (Carbon XL) is forgiving, fast (Boost Fresh) is crisp, and soft (River Glass) is a specialty. See fly rod action for how it feels in practice. Second, decide on a rod or an outfit: Traverse is the fullest, Lift and Gecko are lighter on contents. Third, read the maker mark under each value. The weights in ounces are Echo's, not ours.
If you are comparing against other brands, our 5-weight page and the fly rod brands catalog are the places to line them up.

Questions about Echo
Are Echo fly rods any good for a beginner?
Echo's founder, Tim Rajeff, is quoted as saying the idea is to make an affordable first rod and a great backup, and the lineup reads that way: moderate-action Carbon XL rods that Echo says suit all skill levels, and Lift and Gecko outfits that arrive with a reel. I cannot rate how they cast, because we do not test rods, but on paper the brand is aimed at people starting out. The maker's warranty is a point in its favor.
What is the difference between Echo Carbon XL and Echo Lift?
Echo's own pages call the Carbon XL a moderate-action rod with a light feel that fits a wide range of casting styles. The Lift is described as derived from the Echo Base series, with updated actions and positioned as affordable value for beginners and experienced anglers. The Lift page names no action label and the Carbon XL page names no blank material, so the maker's pages do not settle which is stiffer.
What is the Echo Boost, Boost Fresh and Boost Blue?
The Boost is a fast-action line. Echo says the Boost Fresh is built on the original Boost with shed weight and refined actions, made from a blend of intermediate modulus graphite fibers. The Boost Blue appears in our data as an 8-weight and a 10-weight, but the Boost page we read does not discuss it, so check the maker's page for the Blue before you buy.
Are Echo reels any good?
Echo's pages describe the Ion as a hybrid machined and cast reel with a maintenance-free disc drag and a large arbor, the Bravo as a solid aluminum body with a carbon disc drag marketed as saltwater-safe, and the Base as an impact-resistant resin frame reel. The reels carry a 12-month limited warranty. I would match the reel to the water: the Ion for freshwater, the Bravo if you fish saltwater and will rinse it afterwards.
What comes in an Echo combo?
It depends on the kit. Echo says the Traverse Kit includes a 9-foot four-piece rod, an Ion reel spooled with backing, a weight-forward floating line, a tapered leader and a carrying case. The Lift Kit page lists an Echo Base reel and a fabric rod and reel case, and does not mention line, backing or a leader, so check the listing. The Gecko kits are listed as including line, backing and a leader.
Where are Echo rods made?
We could not confirm it. Echo's about page says the company is based in Vancouver, Washington, and that its founder is involved in building most everything the company offers, but it does not state a factory location. Without a source for where the rods are made, I will not guess.
Does Echo make a travel fly rod?
Yes: the Trip series, three 9-foot rods in 5, 6 and 8 weights, each in eight pieces of about 15 inches that fit an 18-inch case, per the maker. We track the 5-weight and 6-weight versions on Amazon. Echo also makes Boost, Lift and other four-piece rods, which are a more usual choice when you do not need to pack small.
How long is the Echo rod warranty?
Echo covers its rods for the natural life of the product, for the original owner only, at the discretion of Rajeff Sports, the company behind Echo. The rod has to come from an authorized Echo dealer.
What does the Echo warranty not cover, and what does a broken rod cost?
Echo excludes damage from abuse or neglect, including saltwater corrosion and mold, and rods used in outfitter, rental, lodge or fleet settings. A rod broken in normal fishing is repaired or replaced for a service fee that varies by model; failures caused by a defect are handled without the fee.
Are Echo reels covered too?
Yes, for one year for the original owner. Echo asks for a photo of the problem and a dated proof of purchase from an Echo dealer.
Can I buy a replacement tip without a warranty claim?
For most current models, Echo sells tip sections online without a warranty request. For discontinued or unrepairable rods, Echo says it may offer a current model at a discount, case by case and not guaranteed.
